Bearcast Vol. 9 - Simon JM Pitt

Hello folks! It's time for another chapter of the mighty bearcast series! Our good friend who's just recently found his love for great house records delivers a blazing collection of records that shape who he is today- so who this be? Mon-sai, Flymon, and Thelonius Spunk have all fallen nicely in between his initials during our never ending adventures. It's Simon JM Pitt. Selective Pressure graphics department guy/branding manager. Anyway, what day was it today? It's Valentine's Day kids. If you're with someone nice, then you're probably having a really really nice time with your lover(s) and will probably miss this boat on this special day of tuning into this mighty mix, but if you're a loner like us, and our ladies are abroad climbing the global ladder, then hollaar and turn it up like FIMO!

Bearcast Vol. 7 - Soso's chill paradise mix

Bearcast Vol. 7 - Soso's chill paradise mix by Bearcast

Hello again folks. Hope you've been enjoying the nice weather this summer so far. I think that explains why I've taken so long again to post another podcast; sorry to keep you waiting, I received over 3000 emails demanding the new one so I decided to go for another one. Anyway cutting to the point, we've got a brand new one for the hot and lazy summer days. If the sun is shining and you've got a hammock in your garden, fix yourself up a nice cold drink and turn this mix on your stereo. Do nothing. Just chill. Lately, I've been into the sort of sound that make you imagine great countryside views; the watered-down guitar riffs and chords that aren't so in-your-face, new melodies, and records that are tape-recorded with a lot of noise. It's just warmer and more down to earth. We don't always have to have everything sounding so crisp and clear in 320kbps. So enjoy this mix from my man Soso and any comments or feedback would be great for him ;-)

Soso is a dj & producer from nearby Paris and has been collecting, mixing, and producing this style of music since 2009. Check him out here, he's got great taste in music obviously and has an eye visually. His tumblr blog is stacked with lots of great photos. Enjoy! x

Bearcast Vol. 6 - Eltron John

Bearcast Vol. 6 - Eltron John mix for Selective Pressure by Bearcast

The young and most talented up n' coming Polish dj/producer- Eltron John has kindly put together a mix in light of our next selective party. He's considered by many djs and producers to be this underground talent, who will be one of the next big things, and that it's just a matter of time. But his mix for us hints why. We've invited him to play alongside another top Polish artist SLG, a well known figure in the scene who's been around to play.

SLG will be playing Live for us and Eltron will spin some wax you've probably not heard before, so it's a special night for us! Hope you can make it!

When n' Where:

At the C.A.M.P - London on Friday 8th April 2011

Free entry all night long!

Bearcast Vol. 5 - lookleft

Wah Wah Wee Wow. It's been almost a quarter of the year since our last post. You guys must have thought, 'wow what a lazy mofo' and that's all true to say, but it's been a hectic couple of months finishing off records (for a very special label actually), preparing mixes for gigs and lots of catching up with new and old friends & family in London/Berlin. Anyway, I've got a very special mix to share with you guys today. It was put together by an old friend of mine back in 2005 and still to this day, it's still one of my favourite mixes. It's special to me because it redefined the way I mixed. This mix really demonstrates how tracks should be mixed, layering tones, melodies, grooves, and percussion. Before I heard this mix, I never considered all the above, and just simply mixed in/out of a track coming out of a chorus and switching channels while taking care of the volumes and the EQ. I could go on for hours, but I think it's more important for you to hear it. But it's worth while paying attention to some of the mixes. I couldn't have done it at the time for sure. It starts nicely stripped and ends purrfectly chilled out. Keep an eye out for Lookleft's productions too!

Have a wonderful day, and enjoy this lovely mix!

Bearcast Vol. 4 - Kay Suzuki

Bearcast Vol. 4 - Kay Suzuki by Bearcast

Ooo wee! We're back for some more with a special guest! A friend of ours from London, a big record collector and a lover for soulful sounds. The bear is very happy to have Kay Suzuki on board who just released a bomb debut album 'consciousness' on Round in motion. Definitely worth checking out! He's a specialist in funk who plays it all really well, mixing up the soulful and jazzy beats endlessly. We thought it'd be nice to get away from the chill vibes for a minute and go a lil bit more groovy which should be suited for this lovely holiday season. Hope ya'll have had a great Christmas and are stuffed with good food, and are around great people! If Leo's Shunshipp, Stevie Wonder, Barry White, First Choice, and Gary Byrd mean anything to you, then this is the mix for you! Have a wonderful holiday wherever you are, and whatever you get up to! Love from the Haribo Bear! x

Bearcast Vol. 3 - Bearight's Cinematic Choices & Such

Bearcast Vol. 3 - Bearight's Cinematic Choices & Such by Bearcast

So I hope you enjoyed the previous bearcasts! So far it's been a pleasure to feature Cardboard Boss and Arnaud from Input Selector on the podcast series. I've got more great mixes lined up so keep checking this space!

So I've been reading a bit about podcasts, dj-mixes, and what makes a 'good dj/mix' and some say 'a good dj should almost instinctively act on the techniques of mixing, beat matching, and so on; in order to have as much brain capacity to choose the next track, and to read the crowd. Others say harmonious mixing between 2 records is a must. Here at bearcast, let's forget about that for now (even though Arnaud and Cardboard demonstrated the above). I've gathered some of my favourite songs inspired from the films I watched over the years and made this mix. Cinematic moments if you like. Of course I put a little thought into the chronology of the songs, but please pay no attention to the mixes, as this volume of bearcast is just all about the music!

Enjoy!

Track List.

Nicholas Jaar - mini calcutta
Henry Mancini - Lujon
Shuggie Otis - Aht Uh Mi Hed
Jon Brion - Bookstore
Bibio - Haikuesque (When she Laughs)
Fink - This is the thing
Ali Farka Toure - Ai Du
Jon Brion - Elephant Parade
Gato Barbieri - Why did she choose you?
Frivolous - Island of Sanctity
Bugge Wesseltoft & Sidel Endresen - Try
